Practical freight planning from China

MACHINERY EXPORT PACKING

China export wooden crate packing for machinery

A useful machinery crate begins with verified cargo data and a clear handling plan. Confirm the machine’s weight, support points, lifting method, sensitive components and final freight route before the crate is designed and the shipment is booked.

Cargo data before crate design

Do not request a crate using only a product name. The packer and forwarder need physical and handling information to determine the base, supports, access and external size.

Input What to confirm
Machine dimensions and weight Actual overall size and weight before packing.
Support and fixing points Where the machine can be blocked, bolted or supported without damage.
Lifting information Approved lifting points, forklift access and any center-of-gravity information.
Sensitive parts Controls, glass, exposed shafts, painted surfaces and components requiring separation.
Route and destination Transport modes, handling stages and any destination packaging requirements.

What the packing scope should state

A written scope helps the buyer compare quotations and understand what will be delivered. It should identify the cargo, packing location, intended protection, internal securing, external markings, final measurements and the evidence provided after packing.

  • Whether packing occurs at the factory or at a warehouse.
  • Whether the quote includes collection, lifting or positioning.
  • Type of base, enclosure and internal bracing proposed.
  • Moisture and surface-protection method where required.
  • Required handling marks and package identification.
  • Final photo report and packed measurement record.

Wood packaging rules can differ by destination and transport context. Confirm the applicable requirements with the responsible customs and quarantine professionals before release; do not rely only on a generic statement that a crate is “export standard.”

Protection inside the crate

The crate is only the outside structure. The internal plan should prevent the machine from shifting and protect vulnerable surfaces from direct contact. Ask how the cargo will be supported, blocked and separated from the enclosure.

Items to review

  • Machine stability on the base and resistance to movement.
  • Clearance around protruding components.
  • Protection against abrasion, pressure points and loose parts.
  • Moisture-control approach appropriate to the cargo and journey.
  • Access for lifting and handling without opening the crate.

Inspection before release

Before the packed machine leaves, request a record of the complete package. The report should make it possible to connect the finished crate to the shipment documents and freight booking.

  1. Photographs of the machine before enclosure.
  2. Photographs of supports, fixing and internal protection.
  3. Photographs of the completed crate and markings.
  4. Final external length, width and height.
  5. Final gross packed weight.
  6. Package number and shipment reference.
  7. Confirmation of unresolved exceptions, if any.

Use the final crate measurements for the freight quote and transport equipment review. Reusing the unpacked machine dimensions can produce the wrong CBM, vehicle or loading plan.

Export crate quote checklist

  • Machine description, dimensions and weight.
  • Photographs or drawings from several sides.
  • Lifting, support and center-of-gravity information where available.
  • Factory or warehouse packing address.
  • Pickup access, equipment and timing constraints.
  • Destination country and planned freight mode.
  • Required completion date.
  • Any buyer-specified markings or documentation.

Frequently asked questions

What information is needed to quote a machinery export crate in China?

Provide the machine dimensions and weight, center-of-gravity and lifting information where available, photographs, support points, fragile surfaces, required packing location and destination.

Should a wooden export crate be measured before freight is booked?

Yes. Freight planning should use the final external crate dimensions and gross packed weight rather than the unpacked machine data.

Is warehouse receiving the same as a machinery inspection?

No. Receiving can verify package count, visible condition and measurements. A technical or functional machinery inspection requires a separately agreed scope.
